如何用ChatGPT来学英语？

人工智能应用ChatGPT这两天非常火，社交媒体上面有不少人都在分享与它的对话截图。ChatGPT是人工智能公司OpenAI最近发布的一个大型预训练语言模型，它可以作为聊天机器人以及问答系统使用。

与之前其他聊天机器人相比，ChatGPT的性能有了巨大提升。它可以回答后续问题，承认错误，挑战不正确的前提，甚至修改代码中的 bug，具有非常多潜在的应用场景。ChatGPT的功能是如此强大，以此连马斯克都认为“我们离强大到危险的 AI 不远了”。

具体到英语学习，ChatGPT可以完成很多传统英语老师的工作，包括单词短语查询、语法错误批改、造句等，它甚至还能代写作文。虽然目前结果有不完美的地方，但随着性能的提升，它的表现会越来越好。下面举几个例子：

在阅读中如果遇到不懂的短语或搭配，我们可以直接向ChatGPT提问。比如要知道jump through hoops的意思，可以直接提问：What’s the meaning of jump through hoops?

ChatGPT给出了这样的解释：To "jump through hoops" means to do a lot of difficult or complicated tasks in order to achieve something. 并且后面还有详细的使用语境分析，这样更加方便读者理解。

它也可以用来修改英语句子，这点对写作很有帮助。举个例子，There are hundreds of millions of stars in the space. 这句话中冠词的使用是否有问题？你可以输入：“改正下面的句子：There are hundreds of millions of stars in the space.”

ChatGPT将其改为：There are hundreds of millions of stars in space. 并且给出了修改的理由。

又比如，你可以输入：“改正下面的句子：Parent throughout the world spends time to read with their offspring to prepare them for school where their literacy skills are further developed. ”

从图中结果可以看到，ChatGPT给出的修改也非常准确。它将parent改为parents（因为可数名词单数不能单独使用，要改为复数或者前面加限定词），将spends改为spend以及将spend time to do something改为正确用法spend time doing something

我们还可以用它来造句，以加深对单词和短语的理解。比如你可以输入：使用to name but a few造句

从返回的结果中我们可以看到几个写得很不错的句子，比如：

(1) The city has many attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, and the Notre Dame Cathedral, to name but a few.

(2) The company offers a wide range of products, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets, to name but a few.

(3) The singer has won numerous awards, including Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards, to name but a few.

ChatGPT更厉害的地方在于，它还可以直接生成英语作文，常见的四六级、考研英语以及托福雅思作文它都能写。

我找了一道常见的考研写作书信题来测试，直接输入题目要求：

Two months ago you got a job as an editor for the magazine Designs & fashions. But now you find that the word is not what you expected. You decide to quit. Write a letter to your boss, Mr. Wang, telling him your decision, stating your reason (s), and making an apology. Write your letter with no less than 100 words.

得到的结果非常好，甚至能直接当辞职信模板了：

如果我们将题目的字数要求改为Write your letter with no less than 200 words. 还可以得到一个更长的书信版本。

常见的托福雅思作文题目它也能写，比如有这样一道雅思作文题目：

In contemporary society, everyone should have equal opportunities in education. Therefore, universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

ChatGPT写了这样的范文：

虽然范文在观点的论证上有值得提升的地方，但是文章的用词非常不错，其中有不少值得学习的语言点。如果你平时写作文找不到思路，可以参考一下ChatGPT的范文。

ChatGPT的功能还不止上面提到的这些，有条件的同学可以多去探索，用好工具来辅助英语学习。
